I know what you’re thinking – not another post telling me to sell my car, move into a cheaper house and stop drinking coffee. Those techniques have been covered far too many times before, so I’ll give you some alternative ideas on how to save for your trip.
DISCLAIMER – If any of these tips leave you in prison or dead, you can’t sue me (I’m pretty sure that’s legally binding – I have hardly any money anyway).
Sell your organs
Who needs that extra lung or kidney? A poor dying man might, so stop being so greedy and get rid of everything you don’t need. You’ll make some great money and completely de-clutter your body – because possessions don’t mean anything; it’s all about experiences.
Set up a shady business like on Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
If you haven’t already seen this movie then you should definitely check it out. 4 friends need to come up with half a million pounds within a week or risk the wrath of a notorious gangster. This is one of the plans they come up with (don’t watch this if you’re a child or easily offended!).
Sell your virginity on EBay
This probably only works for good looking women, but if you are lucky enough to be one then this could be a goldmine. Plenty of people have been doing it lately so the social stigma is receding – now would be the time to jump on the bandwagon.
Become an internet celebrity by taking an extreme selfie
You probably saw the video of the guy getting kicked in the head while taking a selfie next to a passing train. He will apparently earn over $200,000 for that bizarre moment, so all you need to do is think of something equally as funny and capture it on film. The possibilities are limitless; just make sure you don’t die in the process.
Cure cancer or aids
If you cure either of these 2 illnesses then you can pretty much write your own cheque. You’ll be famous throughout the world, but you might have a hard time quitting your job to travel, because everyone will want you to try your hand at curing the Ebola virus, bird flu or whatever exotic new disease materialises.
Start a travel blog and write about all the places you want to go, without having ever been there
It seems that travelling isn’t a prerequisite for starting a travel blog, people seem to be flourishing by writing about places they want to go, not places they’ve actually been. This is a really strange trend, and it’s one that kinda annoys me. If I’m reading an article about a place I’d prefer that the writer had actually been there – that’s not too much to ask is it?
So, there’s no need to sell your car, move into your parents house or get an extra job, just follow some of these tips and you’ll be travelling in no time.
Can you think of any more ways to save for your trip? Let me know!

Ha! Awesome list. I always knew I had the cure for cancer in me, who knew all I needed was a little travel to crack that code!

Haha this is so funny! Much more refreshing than the every day 'sell your tv' 'don't buy coffee when you're out'. Selling your organs will make you weigh less too :)

Thanks for your great suggestions Jon! Some of them never occurred to me, especially not writing about places I haven’t been to, but looking at it from your angle, getting some extra cash really can be quite easy… :)
