If you’re looking for an easy escape from the concrete and sand jungle that is the Gold Coast (the popular bits at least) then Burleigh Heads is a place you should visit. It’s easy to reach by public transport, the walk is short with awesome views and the beach + town are more relaxing to explore than the larger Gold Coast suburbs. Keep reading for more information on the walk at Burleigh Heads.
Burleigh Beach
After a short bus ride from Broadbeach we arrived at Burleigh ready for our walk. We checked out the beach first and were impressed! It’s essentially the same beach as places further north but with more places to eat and drink close to the beach. There are some good places to eat by the beach. We opted for The Crab Pot after checking out Burleigh Pavillion (which had great views but was a bit busy and loud).

There is also a hill at the southern end (just before the national park) which is a nice place to hangout and enjoy the views. It’s quite different to the places like Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise which are completely flat.

Burleigh Heads National Park
I was surprised to find out there was a national park in a seemingly built up area of the Gold Coast, but then I saw how small it was. It doesn’t take long to explore, with several tracks snaking up and around the headland.

We wanted to see the view at the top and had our two year old with us, so we took the most direct route up. It’s a fun walk, steep in parts but nothing too hard. Our son loved walking through the forest and spotting birds.

The view at the top didn’t disappoint — I can’t imagine finding a better (natural) viewpoint than this along the coast. It’s a nice forest to walk through too and has plenty of shade. Keep an eye out for whales at the top!

Burleigh Town Centre
We had some lunch and then had a quick look around Burleigh Town Centre before heading back to Broadbeach. The town centre is quaint compared to most on the Gold Coast. It looks like the main street of a smallish town but there are some cool shops and cafés to look around. Its only a couple of minutes’ walk from the beach / bus stop.
Getting There
Buses and trams provide easy transport to Burleigh. The tram station and bus stops are close to everything which makes it a very easy place to explore. You could also consider staying a few nights in Burleigh for a different experience to the more built-up areas.
