Jonistravelling New and Improved 2022 Version

It’s fair to say I’ve been going through the motions on this blog over the last couple of years. It’s hard not to when you’re stuck on an island at the bottom of the world, with your only chance at escape costing you thousands of dollars upon your return, as well as the guilt that you’ve taken a quarantine spot from someone more deserving.

So, I’ve waited and watched and kept busy with other things while the world sorts itself out. And 2022 could be the year!

What’s Going on With This Blog?

You’ve probably noticed (you theoretical travel blog reader, who has probably long since moved on to some other hobby and the websites associated with it) that the updates on here have been few and far between. I haven’t been overseas in over two years now, and I have a website about New Zealand’s South Island, which has been taking up most of my time (at least I can still travel around one of the most beautiful islands in the world).

That’s all about to change – 2022 is the year I venture back out into the world, as I suspect it is for many people around the world.

New and Improved 2022 Version

I couldn’t be more excited for 2022 – both in terms of travel and this blog. There will be a lot more updates and a lot more posts around how to plan your trip to the destinations which I feel like I’m in expert in. Places like Bali, Thailand, New Zealand, Singapore and heaps more will be getting lots of detailed posts, with countless tips and advice from someone who has experienced the good and the bad that these places have to offer.

I’ll also be travelling to some new places. I miss going to a new place and slowly discovering it while writing about it in the hopes others will get the same enjoyment out of it as I did. I miss being a proper travel blogger, and now I have more motivation than ever to make it a success.

The Travel World in 2022?

You might think this is all a bit optimistic, and that there’s a very good chance that I’ll just repost this same article in a year with the date changed to 2023. That’s definitely possible, but things are starting to feel different. We may not get out of this pandemic by the end of the year, but I reckon things are about to get a lot more “normal”, and for those of us who’s old normal involved lots of travel, there’s reason to optimistic.

  1. Hey Jon, I can imagine your frustration – but not interested in pumping out content from your beautiful island? Anyway, let’s hope travel is opens up in general and great to hear the borders are open in New Zealand. I’d love to see bloggers like yourself get back into the ryhthm of living the good life.

I feel much the same – after a lengthy hiatus and a rebranding, I’m also keen to get out amongst the world more often and blog (excited to do video too).

Here’s to a newer, better travel year (and future). Great time to make travel blogging more thoughtful, responsible and better than it was before I reckon.

    • Hey Andy, thanks for the comment! I also have a site about the South Island of New Zealand, so have been chipping away at that for the last couple of years.

It has been tough, especially when no-one knew when it would all be over, but it seems like 2022 is the year. Good luck with the rebrand etc, see you on the road!
