So, you’re thinking of travelling to Southeast Asia? You’re about to make a great choice – Southeast Asia is the perfect place to travel, especially if you’re thinking about embarking on your first big overseas adventure. This relatively small region is home to some amazing natural wonders, stunning beaches and mysterious ancient ruins, but it’s the people, the prices, the food and the ease of travel that makes it such a great place to travel. I’ve written a lot of Southeast Asia travel blog posts over the last year and a half, so keep reading for some of the highlights (and plenty of off the beaten path destinations).

If you’re looking for some nature in Southeast Asia then definitely see as many of those 15 natural wonders as you can, you won’t be disappointed.
How about some history? Southeast Asia is full of awesome historical sites, from the ancient temples of Angkor in Cambodia to crumbling colonial centres throughout the region. The 4 old capitals in and around Mandalay, Myanmar is one of the best historical day trips in Southeast Asia, and the endless temples of Bagan (not too far from Mandalay) are also a must see.
Interested in unique or idyllic villages? Southeast Asia is full of them. Luang Prabang is probably the most well known town in Laos, but there are quite a few small riverside villages that are perfect for relaxing – Muang Ngoi is probably my favourite. Brunei, a country that most people skip, is home to the largest water village in the world – over 39,000 people live on houses built over the river!
