What does a travel blogger even do in 2024? Add prompts into AI and then check for mistakes before publishing it as their own? Constant sponsored trips, click-bait YouTube videos and annoying skits on TikTok? For me, not yet, but there’s always 2025!
Travel Blogging in 2024
Google algorithm changes and the rise of AI have sent the travel blogging industry into a spin over the last year or so. Bloggers have had their whole livelihoods wiped out after several updates to the Google search algorithm, while AI allows people to publish infinite travel content with pretty much no effort.
People have been publishing generic travel content about places they haven’t been to or have no expertise in for years now, but AI makes it so much easier. There’s also rampant use of AI as a tool to make writing easier — no need for any thought to go into it when you can get a bot to do the heavy lifting for you. As you can probably guess, I’m not a fan!
A Vision for the Future
My approach to blogging has barely changed in 11 years (a few less hot takes these days) and my bold vision for the future is that it’ll stay pretty much the same. I won’t hire a team of writers, delve into the depths of AI or start doing a whole lot of sponsored content. I won’t be dancing on TikTok or begging you to like and subscribe on my YouTube videos — I should probably start doing videos though.
I’ll be writing and publishing travel guides, tips and personal experiences like I always have. There are almost infinite places to travel and write about and I’m excited to keep doing just that – no need for AI here!
I also have another website (seethesouthisland.com) and hopefully these two blogs will keep me busy enough to justify not getting a real job for a while yet! I’ll also be caring for our little one while Gia works, so it’ll be a hectic year or two regardless.
Finally Heading Abroad Again!
The last couple of years have been very quiet on the travel front — our baby boy Vincent has taken up all our time, energy and money. We’re excited to be travelling overseas again though, with a trip to Singapore, the Philippines and Japan later in the year.
We can’t wait to start showing him the world and get back to seeing new places ourselves. Neither of has been to Japan yet so we’re look forward to experiencing somewhere new!
