Should You Travel to America in 2025?

I’m not the kind of travel blogger to wade into politics, but this question seems to be one of the hot topics in travel at the moment so I thought I’d chime in. Should you travel to America in 2025? I won’t advise you either way, but I’ll let you know what I’d do!

Already Booked a Ticket?

If I had a flight booked to America in 2025, I definitely wouldn’t be cancelling the trip (unless I got all my money back). My biggest concern would be the possibility of not getting let into the country and wasting all that money, but I’d be wasting it anyway by abandoning the trip.

I’d also consider if I “had” to go to America. If it were to see family / friends or an event that could only be done in America I’d still do it, but if it was a trip that could mostly be replicated elsewhere (more nature / national park oriented for example) I’d probably just go somewhere with similar landscapes.

Holiday VS Backpacking

I’ve seen reports of tourists getting turned around at the border because their itineraries weren’t tight enough. It seems like you need to have your hotels booked and travel plans in place if you want to avoid issues. For a backpacker or longer-term traveller, it’s not usually preferred to be so beholden to an itinerary. You might have your first few nights booked and then have the freedom to go wherever you want after that. For this kind of travel, it’s best to avoid America at the moment!

Backpacking in Hawaii: Oahu on a Budget

For holidays it’s quite different. You’ll usually have your hotels, transfers and transport all booked well before you arrive in the country. If you have all that there doesn’t seem to be much cause to worry.

Unpredictability

Perhaps the biggest concern for those thinking of booking a trip to America in 2025 is that things are so unpredictable. I’m personally not that interested in keeping up to date with the politics of it all either so if it were me I’d just plan a trip somewhere else this year and save myself some stress!

It Depends Where You’re from and What Your Politics Are

If I was from Canada, Latin America or the Middle East or was non-binary I’d probably have far bigger concerns about visiting America. The same if I was posting lots about freeing Gaza etc.

So, Should You Travel to America in 2025?

I can’t advise you either way because there is so much that goes into a decision like that. I personally wouldn’t cancel a trip I had already planned but I’d be reluctant to book a trip there now. Why not come to New Zealand instead!
