One of the things I love about travel is getting onto a bus (or train) headed somewhere new, putting my headphones on and watching a new world go by. It’s the sense of freedom I imagine someone in the throws of a midlife crises feels when he hops into his newly purchased Porsche, cranks the stereo up and hits the road.
Music has been a big part of my travels, and everyone loves a good playlist! If you need some travel inspiration, check out these songs about (or sometimes just named after) places around the world. Click on the title to listen to the song on YouTube or just watch the whole playlist below.
Moving to New York – The Wombats
California Dreamin’ – The Mamas and the Papas
Can you think of some more songs about places around the world to add to my travel playlist? Let me know!

I enjoy and live for music as much as its most ardent fans but oddly enough I very rarely listen or have something playing when I’m on a bus, train or plane.
Good list, btw. 🙂
Interesting! I find travel so hectic sometimes that when I’m on a long journey I just like retreat into my own world for a while.
Great playlist… seriously! Modest Mouse, The Clash, Led Zepplin and a couple new ones I need to listen to. I’m going to share this with my husband, he’ll love it. Thanks for sharing!
Cheers, I hope he likes it!
I’ll have to add some of these to my Iphone. I like listening to music when I’m on a crowded train or bus. I find the time passes more quickly.
Yeah me too, and sometimes it’s good not to have to talk to anyone haha.
Great playlist. Just gonna add two more: Billy Joel’s Vienna and George Ezra’s Budapest. More poppy than the classic rock or alternative stuff which you include, but I’m excited for an upcoming Eastern European visit, so these two songs are ringing on my mind right now haha.
Cheers Andrew – I love Budapest (the city) but I can’t stand that guy’s voice, I really wanted to like that song!
